Junior Sailing Mission

The mission of the Toms River Yacht Club Junior Sailing Program is to develop knowledgeable youth sailors and to instill in them a love for the sport of sailing that will serve as a foundation for the future of our club.

Program Goals
The primary goals of the TRYC Junior Sailing program are to...
1. Develop sportsmanship, integrity, and interpersonal skills.
2. Instill in students an admiration for sailing.
3. Develop a respect for the sea and the elements.
4. Learn and incorporate safety and seamanship.
5. Instill responsibility for boats and equipment.
6. Create a fun atmosphere in which students want to participate.
7. Provide the environment and education for those who want to compete and those who do not. 
Junior Sailing Program Hours (for ages 8-18, in calendar year)
2020 Junior Sailing Program will run Monday July 6th through Thursday August 20th
Opti Group 1 - Opti Group 7: Monday - Thursday 9:00am - 3:30pm
Opti Group 8, Opti Group 9, Laser, Sunfish & 420: Monday - Thursday 10:00am - 4:30pm

Instruction Levels
TRYC offers instruction in four different boat classes:
· Optimist
· Laser
· 420
· Sunfish

First Mates Program Hours (for ages 6 & 7, in calendar year)

TRYC offers a 1 week program in the summer Monday through Friday, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
First Mates is TRYC’s beginner sailing program offered to 6 and 7 year olds. The goal of the program is to introduce children to the joy of recreational sailing in a safe, fun, and supportive environment. The children will receive instruction on land as well as on the water. Children entering the program must be able to tread water while wearing a life jacket (not supplied). The program is limited in space and registration will be on a first come basis.
